Rug Choice by Weaving Methods: Deck Up Your Home with the Most Tasteful Rug Designs

Most homes in the UK decorate their bare floors with rugs. Many are expensive, handmade varieties, including flat-woven, knotted, and tufted. Some can also be machine-made. The different construction methods can influence the feeling of the surface as fluffy or flat. The rug fibre’s density and length contribute to this. Technically, this specific feature is referred to as the pile. Short-pile, long-pile, and no-pile are some common choices. Flat-woven rugs are no-pile varieties. The thickness of the pile can vary from less than ¼-inch to ¾-inch. However, there is a specific variety called shag rugs. They can boast 1 to 2 inches thick pile height. These are mainly decorative pieces.

When you visit an established rugs UK store, you can directly browse through the specific category of your choice due to some prior knowledge. So, let’s delve into the primary rug options by their weaving technology.

    • Flat-weave rugs

These durable and sturdy pieces may not contain any pile at all. Available in many styles, these rugs don’t feature any backing. It allows them to be reversible. Place them in busy corners of the house or among pets and kids without worries. You can find these rug types in both natural and synthetic bases. Each offers an excellent colour and pattern range. If you check traditional rugs, you will encounter geometric shapes as the main theme. Do you need something for the outdoor area? It’s the thing.

    • Hand-knotted rugs

It’s the oldest weaving technique that gives your rug a unique handicraft value. Artisans make these rugs on large looms with warp and weft threads. The knots are tied meticulously by hand. A high-quality rug of this kind will have dense knots per square inch. Due to their artistic works, these rugs are often pricey. You can buy one for a low-traffic area or to use it as a statement piece.

    • Hand-tufted rugs

A tufted gun is used to deal with the individual threads. After tufting, a layer of coat is applied to the canvas backing to hold the fibres. Trimming is also done to harmonise the pile for a softer and smoother finish. You realise its significance when you walk barefoot on one of these rugs. The cushiony effect will enchant you. Most of these rugs are woollen. However, synthetic options can also be expected. If you want a decorative artefact for your home, it’s perfect. Avoid placing it in a high-traffic area.

    • Handloomed rugs

When warp and weft yarns are interlocked in a specific style, you get your handloom rug. You can find intricate designs in this weaving style. It is a time-intensive project, but not as much as the hand-knotted one. You can consider them for their luxurious charm and better pricing. Durability factor is also there.

    • Shag rugs

These rug varieties were popular in the 1960s and 1970s. They were a staple in living areas and bedrooms. They are back today due to their loveable softness and luxurious feel. Synthetic rugs are more popular in this category.

Every weaving technique has its merits, making rug shopping even more exciting. If you have a time constraint, explore your options under your preferred category.
